The President of ECU Silvio Danailov meets with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Serzh Sargsian

The ECU President Silvio Danailov met with the President of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Serzh Sargsian.  During their official dinner they discussed about the progress of the ECU program ‘Chess in school’ and Mr. Danailov stated his willingness to draw on the rich experience of Armenia in regard to the introduction of chess into the educational system of the country.

Armenia is the first country in the world where students mandatory study the ancient game in class, along with the other core subjects such as mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, etc.

On 13th of March, 2012 in Strasbourg the ECU Program ‘Chess in school’ was officially adopted by the European Parliament. The Written Declaration 50/2011 for the implementation of the ‘Chess in school’ program among the schools in the European Union was signed by 415 MEPs (the needed number was 378 signatures – 50%+1 from the total number of 754 MEPs).

The official endorsement of the program is a historical success for the European chess.

The meeting with Mr. Serzh Sargsian was held within the visit of Mr. Danailov in Armenia, where he participated in the 1st Presidential Board of FIDE. The event took place in Tsakhkadzor, Armenia from 18th to 21st of January, 2013.

In the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, was held the Board meeting of the European Chess Union.

The President of the European Chess Union Silvio Danailov visited also the final of the 73rd Armenian Chess Championship (The Highest League), which was won by GM Tigran Petrosian.
