Silvio Danailov meets with the Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly, Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva

On 19th of March, 2015, the Honorary President of the European Chess Union and President of the Bulgarian Chess Federation, Silvio Danailov, met with the Chairman of the Bulgarian National Assembly, Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva. They discussed the introduction of chess as a school subject in the Bulgarian education system, according to the program “Chess in school”.

The meeting was attended also by the Chairman of the parliamentary Commission for Culture and Media, Mrs. Polly Karastoyanova, and MPs from all political parties represented in the Bulgarian Parliament.

Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva and the members of the Parliament gave their full support about the idea chess to become a school subject. This possibility will be written in the new forthcoming Law for the School Education and is expected to become valid from the school year 2016-2017.



On 17th of March, 2015, Silvio Danailov and Mrs. Polly Karastoyanova met with the Bulgarian Minister of Sport and Youth, Mr. Krasen Kralev, who also supports the program “Chess in school”.


Some facts:

On 11th of February, 2015, after meeting between Silvio Danailov and Spanish MPs from all political parties, the Spanish Parliament accepted a Law for introduction of the program “Chess in school” in the education system of Spain.

On 13th of March, 2012, in Strasbourg the European Parliament has adopted the program of the European Chess Union – ‘Chess in School’. The Written Declaration 50/2011 for the implementation of the ‘Chess in school’ program among the schools in the European Union was signed by the majority of the MEPs. This was a historical success for the European and world chess.
